With 31 of 39 districts (79 percent) reporting their results, Colavita easily distanced himself from his challenger, garnering 62 percent of the vote, 3,701 to 2,286. Town Board members Frederic Salanitro and Luigi Marcoccia each will retain their seats on the council after running unopposed.

After making their decision known at the polls on Tuesday, voters said they were pleased with the outcome on Wednesday.

“The right man for the job won, no doubt about it. Look at his track record, we live in one of the best towns in the county,” resident Ben Yates said on Mill Road. “It starts at the top, and [he has] done nothing to make us question him.”

Since taking office in a three-headed race 10 years ago, Colavita has run unopposed until Denning stepped up to challenge him. The first time politician gave the longtime supervisor a run, but ultimately, was undermanned and under gunned against his Republican counterpart.

“All things considered, I think I did a great job as an army of one against a battalion,” Denning said. “I scared them, and I made them work. They worked really hard, that’s how they got it done.”

During his victory speech at TuttaBella Trattoria in Scarsdale, Colavita praised the effort of his campaign and thanked the volunteers who came out to support him.

“This justifies all the hard work we’ve done for this town,” he said. “It’s all very gratifying.”

Bronxville resident Chris Johnson, who said she was an occasional volunteer and constant supporter of Colavita’s campaign, said she was pleased “the hard work of the Republicans,” paid off.

“It was nice to see the support that was shown during the vote today, and the turnout was incredible,” she said. “Our town isn’t perfect, but our supervisor can be counted on if we bring a problem to him.”
