The Tuckahoe Middle/High School successfully kicked off an after school sport program for the students, with some financial support from SEPTA, and the "Teen Chef" program was successfully introduced in conjunction with The South East Consortium. Both programs will return in the fall.
Due to volunteers from the general and special education communities, children in kindergarten through fifth grade experienced first-hand what it was like to have different abilities during the first annual "Building Bridges" week at William E. Cottle School. "Building Bridges" will return Feb. 22 through 26.
SEPTA hosted Anthony Ianni for Autism Awareness month for the children of the Cottle, middle and high schools.
Next year, the community can expect SEPTA to sponsor meetings on a variety of topics of interest to the special education community; meeting with the school administration to discuss special education issues and provide feedback; partner with neighboring SEPTAs to offer more programs for local families; build a new level of communication with the special education community; and Maria Cocucci will be joined by a new SEPTA co-chair, Maggie Duffy, who will replace Tara Zegers. Zegers will continue as director of Building Bridges.
