The events will be on Friday, April 24. Doors for Cupcake Wars open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:15 p.m.
These events are sponsored by the Eastchester High School sophomore class as a fundraiser for Gilda's Club of Westchester, the cancer support group named after Gilda Radner, "Saturday Night Live" star, who died of cancer.
There is a $10 donation/admission. The dance competition is between 18 couples made up of teacher/student and student/student. There will be a special performance by a group of Eastchester Middle School teachers and a guest performance by Irish Step Dancers from the Hendry School of Irish Dance.
Cupcakes (made by staff/teachers districtwide) will be judged by Martine's Bakery and Chantilly Bakery. There will be chances for concert tickets, sporting events and raffle prizes. Proceeds from admission, cupcake and hat sales go to Gilda’s Club.
New this year is another way to raise money for Gilda's Club. One of the school families, the Devir Family is crocheting and sewing 200 hats for sale ($20 each).
Both the hats and the proceeds will go to Gilda's – the hats will be given to chemotherapy patients. Hats can be made in honor of a cancer survivor or a loved one. There will be a wall of donors displayed that evening. Please enclose $20 in cash or in a check made payable to Gilda’s Club and return to Astarita’s mailbox in the EHS/EMS no later than April 15.
