Along with the district, the Music Conservatory of Westchester and the Music Therapy Institute - both in White Plains – received the ASCAP Foundation Barbara and John LoFrumento Award, named for two Eastchester residents.
The award will make it possible to provide opportunities for students with special needs that may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience music and its healing abilities.
Music therapy can make a significant difference in the lives of children. It addresses areas that include communication, language development, socialization, emotional development and self-expression. It also helps to develop musical skills and talents.
Max Shearon of Anne Hutchinson Elementary School and Middle School student Paul Evangelista accepted the award on behalf of the district, which was presented by the LoFrumentos, who established the award three years ago.
