Eastchester Student Tops National Italian Contest

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Several Eastchester Middle School students participated in the National Italian Contest of the American Association of Italian Teachers, with one taking top honors. Students from Lina Astarita and Josephine Logan’s foreign language classes took the exam alongside more than 5,000 fellow North American students. Prizes were given to the top finishers, which included several Eastchester students. Jacqueline Reith was the top overall finisher, earning her a grand prize of $250. Ayanna Sarro won $150 for her third place finish and there were three students tied for fifth place: Amanda Seigel, Brendan Fitzpatrick and Alexa Schachinger, each of whom won $50. The following students received an honorable mention for their achievement in the exam: Matt Roche, Teresa Shkurtaj, Catherine Clark, Victoria Muriel, Sarafina Mancuso, Juliana Johnson, Lauren Giammarella, Biagio Catalano, Lauren Gresia, Lauren LaBarca and Alexandra DeBenedictis.
