Terranova announced her retirement at the beginning of the last school year, providing the district plenty of time to conduct a search for her replacement before deciding on Moran, the former Middle School principal who has been a member of the district for more than a decade.
Terranova served as superintendent in district's around New York State for more than 20 years, with her last six leading Eastchester schools. She said that she has sought to provide every student and member of the community with the greatest education possible.
“I have discovered the importance of advancing the agenda for public education. Our world is changing, we are becoming much more diverse and education as we know it will continue to evolve,” she said to parents. “I have strived to ensure that all students receive the opportunities that come with an education that is reflective of their needs and interests and stretches them to a scholarly level.”
Joining Terranova in retirement will be Anita Better, the director of technology; parking lot attendant Nicholas Colombo and monitors Annette DiCarlo, Elaine Ferrara, Irene Juliano, Doris Kulinski, Anne Maier, Lisa Nardelli, Angela Reisman, Santina Renne, Julieta Ribeiro and Tina Santoianni.
Terranova took the opportunity to praise both the community and her colleagues for the work that is done in Eastchester.
“My experience in this district has been exceptional, due in large part to the Eastchester administrators, faculty members and support staff,” she said. “The focus on the core values of teaching and learning has worked for the greater good of Eastchester students.”
