Tuckahoe, Eastchester Among Top High Schools In Country

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Both the Eastchester and Tuckahoe High Schools were voted among the top 1,000 high schools in the nation, according to Newsweek’s 2013 study .

This year, the Daily Beast and Newsweek ranked the top 2,000 public high schools in the country, evaluating how effective they’ve been in producing college-ready graduated.

Eastchester High School was ranked 621st in the country, while Tuckahoe landed at number 815. Statewide, Eastchester was 94th while Tuckahoe finished 10 places behind at 104th.

The study is based on six components, including graduation rate, college acceptance rate and among of advanced placement tests taken by students, which combine to comprise 75 percent of the rank. The last 25 percent is made up of advanced placement test scores, the percent of students enrolled in top level classes and average SAT scores.

Both high schools sport a graduation rate of 97 percent, with 92 percent of outgoing seniors in Eastchester and 98 percent of Tuckahoe graduates advance to college. Eastchester students have an average SAT score of 1611 while Tuckahoe averages a 1446. Eastchester students have also enjoyed more success on advanced placement tests, with an average score of 3.7, half a point higher than Tuckahoe.

The top rated Westchester County high schools were Bronxville (sixth in the state); Edgemont Junior-Senior High School in Scarsdale (72nd); Rye High School (79th) and Blind Brook-Rye in Rye Brook.
