TUCKAHOE, N.Y. When Tuckahoe High School said goodbye to 57 students at its commencement Friday, it bid farewell to three of the brightest minds in the Class of 2012.
The senior class valedictorian, salutatorian and an impressive transfer student were profiled by the high school as "students showing promise of a bright future."
Lauren Piacquadio was named the Tuckahoe High School senior class valedictorian. She graduated with an overall average of 97.2 and a grade point average of 3.85. She was treasurer of the student government, a member of the National Honor Society, and the Interact and Varsity clubs. She participated in chorus, was a part of Tech Crew, the literary magazine, Jazz Co., the prom committee and the Tigers volleyball team.
She has received numerous awards for her achievements in Italian class, and was chosen as a student ambassador to attend the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center Human Rights Workshop for Student Leaders. She also won awards for her artwork and poetry.
Piacquadio was crowned Miss Columbus by the Eastchester-Tuckahoe Columbus Day Committee, earning a $10,000 scholarship from the Generoso Pope Foundation. She will attend Fordham Universitys Gabelli School of Business this fall.
Ian Sacks was the Class of 2012 salutatorian. He achieved scores of above 90 percent on each of his New York State Regents examinations, and finished with a 97.16 overall average and 3.88 grade point average. He was the student statistician on four athletic teams, often assuming the role of manager. He received the deans scholarship at Iona College, which he plans to attend in the fall.
Parandis Najati transferred to Tuckahoe High School at the beginning of her junior year and finished school with an average of 100.30 and a grade point average of 4.07. Many teachers at the school have noted that Najati is one of the most impressive students they have worked with.
Before coming to Tuckahoe, Najati was a member of the Math Club, Debate Club, Cross Country team and Key Club. She joined the high schools Science Olympiad team after transferring to Tuckahoe. Shes won awards for her research and presented at the Westchester Engineering and Science Fair.
Najati was a part of the yearbook staff and the National Honor Society, donating more than 400 hours of community service. She plans to pursue science as she continues her education. She will attend Stonybrooks Honors College in the fall.
