EASTCHESTER, N.Y. The Eastchester Eagles will use Homecoming Day as a motivator this Saturday when they host perennial Rockland football power Nyack in a 1:30 p.m. start.
The Eagles (2-3) and the Indians (2-3) have had similar seasons, each struggling through an up-and-down schedule that has left both hoping to finish the season on the up side with victories over the final two weeks of the regular season.
Eastchesters success this fall has come when its backfield, led by quarterback Greg DiCarlo and running back Rob Carinci, moves the ball on the ground. The rushing game has produced victories against Spring Valley and Brewster, but wasnt enough last week in a 21-20 loss to Tappan Zee that dampened the teams playoff hopes.
Nyack began the season with two straight wins, despite the departure of longtime coach John Castellano, who moved on to become as assistant coach at New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco High school. But the Indians have lost three straight games by a total of 14 points, leaving them down the list of possible playoff teams.
Both teams beat Brewster and Spring Valley, the only two common opponents on the schedule so far, which predicts a close game this week. Homecoming will motivate the Eagles, who would love to win this week and finish with a victory against Somers next week to earn a winning regular season.
