Alkins qualified to compete in the 200-meter event at next week’s championship after winning the event at the Section 1 State qualifying race that was held at White Plains High School last weekend.
The sprinter will compete in both the 200 and 100-meter dash, which he had already qualified for. The New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held on Friday and Saturday at Middletown High School.
Although Alkins is preparing for his final race representing Eastchester, the future remains bright for the track and field team according to coach Matt D’Amico. Sophomore Martin O’Connell continued to improve on his already impressive times, finishing with a personal best time in the mile.
“Martin has established himself as a force in Section 1 this season,” D’Amico said. “He will go into next season as one of the premiere runners in Westchester County.”
