Young players will have the opportunity to take part in drills with the John McEnroe Tennis Academy /SPORTIME staff and try out for several open spots for the fall session of the JMTA.
Now in its fourth year, the academy, originated at SPORTIME Randall’s Island, now has annexes in Bethpage, Long Island and Lake Isle in Eastchester.
McEnroe rose to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s by winning seven grand slam singles titles, nine grand slam men's doubles titles, and one mixed doubles title. He spent a total of 170 weeks as the top-ranked tennis player in the world.
“It is the time of the year when the whole area is talking tennis, with the start of the US Open coming, and we are excited to have John come to Lake Isle for what will be a memorable experience for all involved,” Eric Fromm, Sportime’s managing director for Long Island and Westchester said in a prepared statement.
The event is free, however, parents of children interested in playing are requested to register via email at mjoseph@sportimeny.com.
