Tuckahoe Takes 5th Sectional Football Title In Last 6 Years

MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The Tuckahoe High School varsity football team overwhelmed Haldane High School 42-8 to win the Section 1 Class D football title Saturday at Mahopac High School.

The Tigers (5-4), who have won five of the last six Section 1 titles, advanced to the state regional playoffs and will meet the Section 9 Class D champion on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Mahopac High School at 3:30 p.m. in the state quarterfinals.

Tuckahoe jumped out to a 29-0 halftime lead. Running back Enoch Penney-Layrea set the tone on both sides of the ball early, scoring on a touchdown run then blocking a punt ans returning it 30 yards for another score and a 12-0 lead.

After a fumble recovery by Anthony Castracucco, brother and Tigers quarterback Mike Castracucco tossed an 81-yard TD pass to Jourdan Thomas for a 19-0 lead. Mike Castracucco threw four scoring passes in the game.

The Tigers scored another touchdown and a Brandon Zingaro field goal before halftime and the Blue Devils never recovered.

Castracucco, who was named the game's most valuable offensive player, hit brother Anthony with a touchdown pass to open the second-half scoring, then hit Justin Sacchinelli for another score and a 42-0 lead.

Togers lineman Mike Arborn was named the game's most valuable defensive player.
